Abstract

609,395. Magnetic compasses. SQUARE D CO. March 13, 1946, No. 7790. Convention date, March 24, 1945. [Class 97 (ii)] A direction indicator and course setter comprises a compass rose 39 attached by diametrical arms 40, 41, one of which 40 is formed as a N-S pointer, to a spindle (not shown, driven through bevel gearing and a follower magnet from the N seeking element of a liquid magnetic compass. The lubber line 45 and an angular scale reading to 180 degrees on both sides of the lubber line are carried by fixed ring 38 surrounding the rose 39. A disc 26 with parallel arrows 44 and a window 42, through which the graduations on a fixed azimuth scale 25 may be viewed, is manually adjustable by means of knob 35 in accordance with the course it is desired to follow.
