Abstract
599,260. Calculating-apparatus. THOMS, P. P. Feb. 16, 1945, No. 3956. [Class 106 (i)] An instrument for aiding navigation comprises an elongated main part of tapered formation having a scale provided at the wide end with which a pointer on a secondary arm of the instrument co-operates, both parts having elongated slots therein, a complementary elongated part also having an elongated slot and two connecting elements sliciable in these slots. The main elongated part 1 of tapered formation has a distance scale marked along its slot 10 and the secondary elongated arm 2 pivotally connected to the main part at 4 has a speed scale 21 marked along its elongated slot 20. One end of the secondary part carries a pointer 22 which traverses a scale 12 op the wide end of the main part 1. A third elongated part 3 has a scale of speed 31 along its slot 30. An element 5 is slidable in slots 10 and 30 while a second element 6 about which the part 3 may pivot is arranged to be slidable in the slot 20. A compass rose 7 may be rotated as desired about the elements 5, 6. The rose and three parts are preferably made of transparent material.
