Abstract

Miners' dials.-In a miners' dial &c. having a telescope mounted to turn in azimuth and a stationary compass ring &c., a supplementary lens C' is provided which is detachably connected to the telescope A at the end functioning as the objective when it is desired to read the graduations on the ring B, the focal length of the lens being equal to its distance from the ring, so that an observer looking through the other end of the telescope sees a clear magnified image of the graduations. The lens C<1> is carried by a detachable mount C to which may also be hinged a mirror C<2> for illuminating the ring B. The telescope A is of the unit magnification type comprising two similar lenses A<1>, A<2> separated by a distance equal to twice the focal length of either, so that either lens can be used as the objective when sighting distant objects.
