Abstract

651,367. Microscopes. SIEBER, F. W. Sept. 16, 1948, No. 24381. [Class 97 (i)] To allow a straight or sloping monocular eyepiece or a sloping binocular eyepiece to be readily and accurately assembled on the main part of the microscope the latter terminates in a double cone into which may be fitted a corresponding double cone on a head carrying the eyepiece. The sloping eyepieces may be rotatable about the axis of the objective. As shown, a sloped binocular eyepiece 14 is mounted in a casing 15 on a support 16 fast to the head 8. The latter has a double conical external surface fitting into a similar surface 4, 4A on a lining 3 of the main part 1 of the microscope, such fitting accurately aligning the two optical axes, a screw 5 holding the two parts together. The head 8 also carries a prism system 21 and a diaphragm tube 17. The part 16 may be rotatable on the head 8 and may be clamped in position by engagement of a catch thereon in an aperture in the main part 1.
