Abstract

726,036. Transparency viewer; microscopes and telescopes. BERIA, A. July 6, 1953 [July 8, 1952], No. 18710/53. Class 97 (1). A viewer for transparencies (such as of maps) comprises a microscope with eyepiece 1 and objective 2, a transparent tube 8 which slides over the end of the microscope within an outer tube 6, which outer tube has an opening 7 for the inlet of light, and means such as a mirror or prism 3 to deflect the light into the microscope. The transparency M is placed on the inner wall of the tube 8 and is viewed by light transmitted through the window 7. The opening 7 may be fitted with a converging lens if desired. By rotating the tube 8 and sliding it into or out of the tube 6, all parts of the transparency may be brought over the opening 7. The instrument may be converted into a telescope by replacing the end cap 9 by a lens, and swinging the mirror or prism 3 clear of the optical axis by means of a suitable mechanism. A compass may be fitted to the cap 9, or, where the instrument is convertible to a telescope, to the lens cover.
