373,080. Microscopes. LEITZ GES., E., Optical Works, Wetzlar, Germany. Dec. 15, 1931, No. 34768. Convention date, Dec. 19, 1930. [Class 97 (i).] In a microscope in which rays for illuminating an object enter at one side of the objective and are reflected down outside the objective along paths outside the area of the imageforming rays which pass up through the objective, the downwardly-reflected rays are caused to converge by means of an annular refracting condenser lens or a system of such lenses surrounding the objective. In Fig. 3, the objective E is of comparatively low power and the condenser consists of a single annular refracting lens F which receives light from a reflector B mounted in a box A which is screwed to the microscope body, the mount D for the lens F being screwed into the lower end of the box. The image-forming rays pass up through a tube A<1> projecting into the box A. The objective and condenser may be enclosed in a dipping cap G when the microscope is to be used with its objective dipping into water &c. The cap G has an interior spring fitting G<2> so that it can slide over the mount D, a flange G3 being provided to give a definite distance between the front lens of the objective and the transparent front G<1> of the cap G. In the case of a high-powered objective, Fig. 2, the condenser consists of two lenses F, F<1>, the mount D<1> for the latter being screwed to the mount D. Specification 348,202 is referred to.
