Abstract
401,591. Microscopes. ZEISS, C., [Firm of], Carl-Zeiss-Strasse, Jena, Germany. April 24, 1933, No. 11865. Convention date, April 30, 1932. [Class 97 (i).] In a device for illuminating microscope objects with incident light by means of a converging system which is coaxial with the microscope objective and receives rays from a source on the image side of the objective, the converging system is outside the microscope tube and the illumination rays surround the tube. In the form shown in Fig. 1 for use with a microscope having an inclined ocular 7, the light source 11 is carried by a support 13 so as to lie on the axis 9 of the objective, the support being secured to the tube 3 by a clamp 14 and also carrying the converging system consisting of an annular reflector 10 surrounding the tube 3. Fig. 4 shows a form for use with a microscope in which the axis of the ocular coincides with that of the objective. The light source 26 lies to one side of the tube 3 and is situated at the focus of a paraboloidal mirror 27. The parallel rays from the mirror 27 are received by a plane mirror 15 which directs them parallel to the axis 9 to an annular paraboloidal mirror 22 surrounding the tube 3 and having its focus in the object 5. The mirror 15 is slotted so as to pass over the tube 3. The mirrors 15, 22, 27, and the light source, are carried by a support 24 secured by a clamp 23 to the ocular 7.
