[Class 97 (i).] An illuminating- appliance for microscopes, using incident light, consists of an optical system having two members the foci of which lie respectively in the source of light and in the object to be examined, the line joining the foci being approximately parallel to the plane of the object. In the form shown, the device consists of the two halves f, g of a paraboloidal mirror, the common axis of the two reflectors lying in the plane of the stage a and their foci being at the points h, i. In a modification, the reflector f is replaced by half a converging lens having its principal focus in the light source e, the lens being between the said source and the reflector g.
