Abstract

348,202. Microscope condensers. LEITZ, E. [Firm of], Optical Works, Wetzlar, Germany. Jan. 14, 1930, No. 1327. Convention date, Jan. 31, 1929. [Class 97 (i).] For the examination of objects with a high power by incident light, an illuminating device is provided comprising a condenser surrounding the objective and a prism or other reflecting element above or behind the objective and the condenser. The arrangement is such that light is reflected through the condenser and caused to converge on to the object, such light being external to the image-forming optical system. In one example, a condenser A is mounted to surround an objective B supported from a box or casing C attached to the microscope body tube D. A reflecting surface E with a central space is disposed between two prisms F, F<1> by which incident light is reflected as shown to the condenser A being converged from its curved surface on to the object under examination. Webbed apertures C<3> in the casing C are provided to permit passage of light rays. A further example utilizes a plane mirror and a doubly-reflecting curved condenser carried in a focusing mount on the lower part of the casing C.
