Abstract

400,868. Microscopes. ZEISS, C., [Firm of], Carl-Zeiss-Strasse, Jena, Germany. Mav 8, 1933, No. 13307. Convention date, May 12, 1932. [Class 97 (i).] In an ocular tube attachment for monocular microscopes, providing an inclined viewing direction with a vertical microscope tube by deviating the rays by means of a reflecting system used in conjunction with a glass body extending into the microscope tube and traversed by the imagining rays without deviating them, the reflecting system and the glass body are made of a single piece of glass of which at least one surface which is not traversed bv the imagining rays is parallel to the entering rays and acts as a reflecting surface. The glass body d is a prism of square cross section with rounded corners to fit within a tube a, the lower end e of the body being at right-angles to its axis and resting on a cap b screwed to the tube a. The upper surface f is inclined at 30‹ to the axis and the vertical surface m is formed as a reflector n. The tube a terminates at its upper end in a hemispherical cap g receiving the ocular tube h, the axis of which is at right-angles to the surface f. The outer surface k of the tube a fits into the microscope tube l. The glass body d extending into the microscope tube accommodates the greater tube length entailed by the inclined eyepiece construction to an objective adapted to the usual length of tube employed in a straight-vision microscope, and thus obviates the use of a negative lens to increase the focal length of the objective.
