Abstract

495,623. Arc lamps ; variable-speed intermittent gearing. ZEISS IKON AKT.- GES. April 4, 1938, No. 10280. Convention date, June 14, 1937. Addition to 471,647. [Class 39 (i)] [Also in Group XXIV] In an electrode feed mechanism for an arclamp having a member intermittently driven for adjustable periods by a ratchet or the like, the period of engagement of which is regulated by an adjustable cam, as described in the parent Specification, the length of the period of engagement is regulated by adjusting the effective length of the cam surface. For this purpose the engaging member consists of a toothed member 6 pivoted to a rotating shaft 1 and urged by a spring 19 to engage a crown wheel 7 coaxial with the shaft 6 and driving the feed-mechanism through gearing 8, 9. Surrounding the crown wheel 7 is a rim 13 having a projecting portion 12 so proportioned that the member 6 when it reaches the portion 12 rides up a slope and is disengaged from the wheel 7. To regulate the period of disengagement a steel strip 16 is pushed through a slot 15, Fig. 3, in the rim 13 so that a greater or less portion lies within the rim in position to engage the member 8.
