Abstract

486,722. Ratchet gearing. KITCHEN, E. E., and JONES, B. B. Oct. 19, 1937, No. 28442. [Classes 80 (i), 80 (ii), and 80 (iii)] In ratchet gearing particularly applicable to intermittent feed mechanism for mechanical stokers, a motor a drives, through a belt c, a wheel d on which is eccentrically mounted a roller e adapted to reciprocate a lever f. This lever has at its lower end jaws f<1>, Fig. 4, engaging an overhanging rim k<1> of the wheel k to be driven. The lever is retracted by a spring g. Side plates f<3> prevent undue lateral movement. The axle e<1> of the roller e is adjustably mounted in a slot d<1> which, for purposes of finer adjustment of stroke, may be snailshaped. Retrograde movement is prevented by a back-stop fulcrumed at b<1> and having jaws h<1> similar to those of the lever f, a spring j keeping this stop retracted. In a modification, the actuating lever may be provided with a set-screw bearing on the roller so that its inclination may be varied.
