Abstract
244,647. Gear Grinding Co., Ltd., and Snarry, J. W. May 25, 1925. Indexing. - A dividing-mechanism for gear-grinding or other machines comprises a dividing- wheel a mounted on the workspindle b, the teeth c of the wheel each having a radial face d and the angular positions being determined by a positioning-pawl e whose engagement with the teeth is limited by means of an adjustable stop g coacting with a lug f on the pawl. The stop is located so that when the pawl is engaged the operative end face of the pawl is radial to the dividing wheel. The positioning-pawl is intermittently disengaged against the pressure of a plunger h by means of a cam i on an oscillating member j which also carries an actuating-pawl k which moves the wheel through the required angle while the positioning-pawl is disengaged. A locking-pawl t may be employed to prevent backward movement of the dividing-wheel during the idle stroke of the actuating-pawl. The arm j is oscillated by a, fork on a slide n carrying a rod r which is reciprocated from a crank q through an adjustable spring s. At the end of each operative movement the spring is compressed and thus causes the actuating-pawl to press the indexing- wheel firmly against the positioning-pawl.
