Abstract
171,473. Orcutt, H. F. I., and Gear Grinding Co., Ltd. May 13, 1921. Indexing.-A dividing-head for use in grinding or other machines, for example in gear-grinding machines, comprises a disc a secured to the work spindle b and having around its periphery notches c, in number corresponding to the wheel teeth &c., adapted to be engaged by a locking-pawl g and by a feeding-pawl d. The pawl d is carried by an arm f, which is loosely mounted on the spindle b and is oscillated by the engagement of a roller q thereon with a fork p carried by a slide b. The slide is reciprocated through a rod m by a crank n, which is moved at the correct intervals by the machine. The locking-pawl g is pivoted to the framework of the device and is pressed into the notches by a spring-pressed plunger i, the final movement being given, to locate the disc a accurately, by a bell crank lever r carrying a screw t engaged by the slide l at the end of its stroke; the pawl is lifted, on the idle stroke of the arm f, by a cam j on the arm.
