Converting rotary into oscillating or reciprocating motion.-Reciprocating or oscillating motion of progressively decreasing and increasing stroke, for application or example to the traverse bar or other reciprocating element in textile machinery, is transmitted for example to a bar e from a rotary shaft g. Gear-wheels A, B of different diameters are secured eccentrically, one adjustably on the shaft g and the other on an axle d carried in a bracket! f on the base e. The shaft g may be rotated by worm gearing h. Mesh between the wheels may be maintained by a spring c or by a link engaging pivots concentric with the wheels. In a modification, a second eccentric driven wheel carried by a second bracket on the bar e or by a lever pivoted to the wheels A, B may engage the opposite side of the wheel A, or the second eccentric wheel may be replaced by a wheel concentric with its pivot.
