Abstract

Embossing. - In mechanism for converting rotary into reciprocating motion and vice versa, applicable to stamping, embossing, and like machinery, a reciprocating member 1 is carried at one end of a link 2 the other end of which is pivoted to another link 9 pivoted to a fixed point 10. The link 9 has an arcuate slot 12 in which a pin 14 on a connecting-rod 8 driven by a crank 3 is adjustably secured. Rotation of the crank 3 produces reciprocation of the member 1. Alteration of the stroke of the latter is obtained by changing the position of the pin 14 in the slot 12. The member 1 always reaches the same position at the lower end of its stroke. The link 9 may oscillate on one or on both sides of the centre line 10, 11 in which the axis of the rotating member 3 may also be situated. The pivot 4 may be adjusted in a slot in the member 9 and the pivot 14 may be adjusted on the connecting-rod 8 by arranging the latter with a slot, or with a number of holes for the pin 14, or with a screw-adjusting gear. As applied to a stamping-press, the member 2 is secured to the reciprocating member 7 by a ball joint 17, Fig. 3, and the connecting-rod is formed of two parts 18, 19, the latter being threaded in a bush 20 screwed to the part 18.
