Abstract
231,176. Sanguineti, E. March 18, 1925. Converting rotary into oscillating motion; conveying reciprocating motion. - Rotary motion alternately in opposite directions is obtained from reciprocating motion of a non-rotary sleeve or nut which engages a cylindrical member formed with a steeply-pitched screw thread or threads. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 1, the cylindrical member 1 is rotatably mounted in a frame 5 pivoted at 9, and transmits motion through geans 10, 11 to a shaft 12, being externally threaded and rotated alternately in opposite directions by a sleeve or nut 3 carried by a frame 6 slidably mounted in the frame 5 and connected at its outer end 8 to a crank 7 which rotates in the direction of the arrow 15. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 2, a pair of steeplythreaded cylinders 1 transmit motion through toothed gears 17, 18 to a shaft 19, being rotated alternately in opposite directions by engagement with nuts carried by a crosshead 3 on a reciprocatory rod 16.
