Abstract
138,546. Lanfranchi, J. T. May 12, 1919, [Convention date]. Saws, sharpening.-In a saw sharpening and setting machine in which the file-carrier u is driven by a crank-shaft, the latter is mounted in an inclined position so that the file is withdrawn from the teeth of the saw b in a sloping direction. The carrier u is reciprocated by a connecting-rod s and crank-disk s<2>. A lever v<1> operated by a cam t presses the files into engagement with the saw on the working stroke, and a spring v raises it on the return stroke. The saw is fed by friction disks f, yieldingly pressed together by a clamp, on the movable part d of which the adjustable 'bottom support for the saw is mounted. The disks fare rotated intermittingly through a oneway clutch and levers e<4>, e<5> from a crank-disk g operated by bevel gear from the main shaft h. The exact amount of movement of the saw is controlled by a forked stop q pivoted at q<3> and engaging two saw teeth by adjustable prongs q<1>, so as to hold the saw when the stop q contacts with an adjustable stop o. A quick-acting cam s<1> on the disk s<2>, operating through a lever r carrying the pivot q<3> then withdraws the prongs q<1>, and the stop q is moved by the spring q<2> against a stop p and is then in position to engage the saw teeth again. The machine may be turned by hand for setting by a wheel y<3>, shaft y and one-way clutch h<3>. The saw-setting device n<4> is operated through levels n<3>, n, and a pin-and-slot device n<1>, m<2>, driven by bevel gearing from the inclined shaft j.
