Abstract
387,153. Wiring bales &c. WOLF, P., 2, Bruerstrasse, Kalk, Cologne, Germany. March 7, 1932, No. 6853. Convention date, Dec. 28, 1931. [Class 45.] In a bale &c. wiring apparatus wherein one end of the wire is clamped at a fixed point and the other end is secured to tensioning mechanism, after the tensioning has been effected the wire is clamped and cut between the twisting pinion and the tensioning means, the operation of the means effecting the clamping and cutting simultaneously unlocking the means for operating the twisting pinion. The tensioning means may comprise the notched drum 17, Fig. 1, operated by the ratchet lever 19 or may comprise a pair of serrated rollers 22, 24, Fig. 3, between which the wire passes, and which are rotated in opposite directions from the ratchet lever 19 through a train of toothed gearing. The serrated roller 22 is carried by an eccentric 23 so as to be movable away from the other roller by means of a lever 27. A spring 28 normally draws the rollers into contact to a degree limited by an adjustable stop 30. A lug 27a on the lever 27 lies over the contacting portions of the serrated rollers to prevent the wire slipping sidewise. The free end of the wire is clamped between a serrated eccentrically mounted disc 3, Fig. 1, and a serrated anvil 1a. The intermediate clamping and cutting means comprise sliding members 10, 11 which are depressed in succession by rotation of a lever 13. The lever 13 is eccentrically mounted in a link 14 is which provided with cam surfaces coacting with the upper ends of the members 10, 11 and is pivoted eccentrically to a rotatable bolt 15. An arm 16, Fig. 5, is pivoted on the rear end 12a of the shaft of the lever 13 to which a driving pin 16a also is secured. A member 35 having an annular groove 35a in which the arm 16 normally engages is slidably but not rotatably mounted on the shaft 8 which operates the gear wheel 7 meshing with the slotted twister pinion 6, a pin 36 having enlarged heads and projecting from the shaft 8 engaging in axial grooves in the member 35. This member is normally pressed by a spring 37 to a position in which a lug 31a projecting from an arm 31 loose on the shaft 8 engages in a notch 35d in the member 35 to lock the latter against rotation. On rotation of the lever 13 the arm 16 first moves the member 35 against the spring 37 so that the notch 35d rides clear of the lug 31a and the arm is raised by a spring 32. On completion of the movement of the lever 13 the arm 16 moves out of the groove 35a and the member 35 is moved back by the spring but is not locked by the lug 31a since the latter no longer registers with the notch 35d so that rotation of the shaft 8 and twister pinion may now be effected. As the end of the twisting operation is reached the notch 35d re-registers with the lug 31a and moves the arm 31 downwards to a limited extent and the sleeve 35 and shaft 8 become re-locked. A slight reverse rotation of the shaft 8 is effected by the spring 32 and is limited by a pawl 39 engaging a recess in the hub of the gear wheel 7.
