Abstract
448,221. Grinding knives. WALTERS, B., and DOBSON, W. M., 57, Bailey Street, Sheffield. Nov. 7, 1935, No. 30758. [Class 60] A knife-grinding machine comprises an annular grinding-wheel 7 operating with its flat face upon the work mounted in a holder 2, 3 pivoted at 4 to a slide 5 reciprocated, through rack gearing 9 by a hand lever 8. The holder carries a lever 8 on which is a roller 11 engaging the top horizontal edge of a guide plate 12 under the action of a spring 13, and the plate is adjustably mounted by screws 15 on a slide 16 movable in an inclined groove 17 in a cross slide 19, and having at its ends stops 20, 21. On the slide 5 are two adjustable screwed push bars 22, 23 adapted to engage the ends of the slide 16, so that when the slide 5 nears the end of a stroke in one direction, the bar 22 pushes the slide 16 up its inclined groove, thus lifting the guide 12 to press the knife blade against the wheel 7. At the end of the reverse stroke of the slide 5, when the blade is ground, the bar 23 pushes the slide 16 down the groove, thus lowering the guide 12 so that the blade falls away from the wheel 7, and may be removed &c. ; the movement of the slide is stopped by engagement of the stops 20, 21 with the slide 19. The slide 19 is adjustable to compensate for wear of the wheel 7, and to bring the work into proper relation with the wheel.
