[Class 83 (iv)] Sheets delivered to a table by driven feed rolls for feeding to a trimming cutter have the side guide adjacent the feed rolls retractable out of operative position prior to the delivery of a sheet by a connection to the feed bar, the guide being returned on the forward stroke of said bars. Both the fixed guide 36 and the movable guide 40 are resiliently held in position by backing of springs 37, 41 allowing yield in case of roughness or unevenness of the sheet width and they are located over shallow recesses 42 in the table 10 to prevent the edges of the sheet 58 from passing under the guides. The sheet delivered by the rolls 59 is prevented from prematurely dropping on to the table at its rear end by an auxiliary roller 61. The guide 40 is pivotally connected to parallel levers 46, 47 swinging between limit stops 56, 57 under the control of rod 34 passing through a lug 50 pivotally mounted on one of the levers, and connected at 33 to the feed bar 32 mounted on lugs 28, 29 working through slots in the table and linked at 26 to a lever connected by a rod 30 adjustable in length to a crank 18. To ensure complete retraction of the movable guide the motion is completed before the end of the return stroke of the feed bar the spring 54 being compressed during the remainder of such movement. The guide is returned by a spring 55 the rod 34 passing idly through the lug 50 during the feed stroke of the bar 32. Trimming is effected by cutters 11, 12 on a shaft 13 having between the cutters feed rolls 14 cooperating with other rolls on a shaft parallel to but below the shaft 13.
