Abstract

[Class 38 (iv)] Fluid pressure.-An electrode boiler comprises an electrode chamber A and an auxiliary vessel C with a water connection such as the pipe D and a steam connection such as through pipes E and F, the latter including a valve which is closed when the steam pressure has reached a desired value. The vessel C is at the same time vented to atmosphere or a low pressure container such as a hot well or feed tank, and the water in consequence flows into the vessel C and the water level at the electrodes falls until the steam production balances the steam demand. A suitable valve is shown in Fig. 2, wherein a spring G<4>, which may be adjustable to determine the steam pressure, opposes the pressure on a valve element G<2> until this opens to connect the pipe E with the relief pipe K and at the same time a valve element G<3> closes the connection between pipes E and F and maintains the pressure on the spring. A feed pump may be stopped at this time by its steam supply being interlocked with the valve, or, if electrically driven, by a switch opened by the steam pressure. The valves G<2>, G3 may be separately actuated and the vessel C may be arranged in any suitable way.
