Abstract
494,508. Hasp fastenings; hinges. CHENEY, C. W., and KENNEDY, E. N. March 25, 1937, Nos. 8752 and 27913. [Classes 44 and 65 (ii)] In an extensible hasp or hinge fitting having a channel member e, carrying at one end a hinge flap or hasp e<2> and at the other end a pawl e<4>, and sliding in a casing d having a rack d<2> for engagement by the pawl, the sides of the channel are strengthened by outwardly extending flanges f or inwardly extending flanges f<2> shown dotted in Fig. 3. In a modification, the flanges, after being turned outwardly or inwardly, are bent so as to lie against the inner surfaces of the side walls of the channel and are formed with pivot holes for the lever e<3> which actuates the pawl, making it unnecessary to pierce the side walls for this purpose. The front d<4> of the casing may have tongues m clenched over the back plate d<3> to provide additional attachment between the two parts of the casing.
