Abstract

589,819. Fastenings; hinges. STRANG, W. B. Oct. 26, 1944, No. 20834. [Classes 44 and 65 (ii)] A hinge or clip for attaching a lid or door A to a box or frame B, Fig. 2, comprises two main parts separate from the pivoted members, one of which E is a plate curled over at one edge to form a hook e and the other part C being a flat plate with one edge c<5> engaging the hook e together with a rib or like projection D forming a pivot located between the pivoted members A and B which causes the edge c<5> to bear against the inner surface of the hook e when the members A and B are closed. The projection D may be integral with either of the members C and E or may be entirely separate from them. The members C and E may extend all along the edge so as to form a watertight seal. The free or outer edge of the door is secured by a known type of toggle hasp F. A projection e<3>, Fig. 6, may be formed on the edge of the plate E to co-operate with a corresponding projection c<2> so that when they engage the edge c<5> is forced into the hook e. In a modification, the projection c<2> is dispensed with and the projection D co-operates with the projection e<3>. The part C may be attached to the part E by pins c<4>, Fig. 8, sliding in L-shaped slots e<4> formed in plates e<5> attached to the ends of the part E. When used for packing cases, the parts C and E may be provided with additional attachment flanges perpendicular to the ones shown to give greater strength.
