[Class 44] A toggle-type hook fastening for box lids &c. comprises a plate 4 secured on the lid A and having a portion bent down to lie against the front of the lid, the end of this portion being formed with a hook 4a (which may have lateral guide lugs 4c) engaged by the co-operating member mounted on the box. The box-carried part comprises a plate 1 secured to the box B and having a curled end 1b pivotally receiving one side of an open frame link 3, the opposite side of which is pivotally received in the curled end 2a of a plate 2 the free end of which is formed as a hook 2b to engage the hook 4a, the plate being bent so that when, after the hooks 2b, 4a have been engaged, Fig. 3, plate 2 is pressed towards the box to draw the lid down tight, it passes over a dead-centre position to retain the fastening against accidental release. Additional fastening means of any kind may be provided such as a staple and padlock arranged to prevent plate 2 being swung outwards to effect release, or an eye 1c may be provided on plate 1 through which a string or wire may be passed, and after being brought over plate 2, sealed. As alternatives a stud 5 may be mounted in an inclined slot 4d in plate 4, Fig. 4, the stud in its upper position being clear of hook 2b and in its lower position wedging between hook 2b and plate 4, or a nail 6. Fig. 6, may be passed transversely between opposed grooves in the hook 2b and plate 4 to effect a somewhat similar wedging action.
