Abstract
556,833. Stud and slot fastenings. LAWRENCE, L. I., (Representative of LAWRENCE, H.). April 16, 1942, No. 5008. [Class 44] A fastening for box lids, and for connecting the parts of a knock-down box or the like, of the kind in which a headed stud is engaged in and moved along a slot comprises a metal attachment plate 8, Fig. 7, to which the headed stud 12 is secured, and a second metal plate having a longitudinally tapering slot in which the shank of the stud jams. As shown in Fig. 7 an L-section plate has one web 25 secured to the box wall and the other web provided with an open-ended tapering slot 24. Fig. 2 shows an alternative arrangement in which the metal plate has a slot tapering from both ends to the narrow central portion 16 and with terminal enlargements 15 through either of which the headed stud may be passed, the part carrying the stud being moved, e.g. by blows from a hammer, to move the stud to the part 16. A further modification using a tapering keyhole slot is described. In combination with the above feature the slotted plate may taper in thickness and the stud head may have a corresponding wedge form so that a camming action is exerted on the stud head to draw the connected parts into tight engagement.
