Abstract
508,522. Core boxes; fastenings. WESTINGHOUSE BRAKE & SIGNAL CO., Ltd., and POTTS, E. Jan. 3, 1938, No. 154. [Class 44] [Also in Group XXII] A fastening, applicable generally but described as for securing together temporarily the parts of a core box containing a sand mould for casting metal, comprises a pair of adjacent studs or projections 6, one being mounted on each of the parts 1, 2 to be secured, and an apertured member 13 surrounding the projections and having an internal contour adapted to draw the projections 6 together by cam action when member 13 is rotated. As shown, studs 6 are of semicircular cross-section and have semicircular base-plates 5 secured to the parts 1, 2 by screws, not shown. Member 13 is an oval ring with a cross-bar 15 having terminal upstanding projections by which the member may be rotated. Alternatively, the bar may have a polygonal head to receive a spanner, or holes to receive an operating rod. Member 13 may be secured in fastened position by pins 16 passed through apertures in the member into registering apertures in the plates 5 and parts 1, 2.
