Description

UNITEDSTATES PATENT OFFICE.
*HEBER ROIBARTS, 0F BELLEVILLE, ILLDVOIQM WINDOW-LOCK.
Application filed .Tune 26 To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HEBER ROI-EARL'S, a citizen of the United States, residing at Belleville, in the county of St. Clair and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful lVindow-Lock, of which the following is a specification.
This invention aims to provide a simple means for locking the upper and lower sashes of a window, so that the oint between the meeting rails of the sashes will be dust proof, the sashes being so .held that they will not rattle and it being practically im possible to slide either of the sashes when the fastener is applied thereto. 7
It is within the province of the disclosure to improve generally and to enhance the utility of devices of that type to which the invention appertains. v
lVith the above and'other objects in view,
which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that, within the scope of what isclaimed, changes in the precise embodiment of the invention shown can be made without departing from the spirit of the. invention.
In the accompanying drawings V Figure 1 shows in front elevation, a por tion of a window frame and a pair of sashes, the fastener being applied thereto and being in a retracted position; Fig. 2 is an elevation wherein the fastener is viewed endwise; Fig. 3 is a plan of the fastener; and Fig.4 is a fragmental section taken approximately on the line 44 of Fig. 1.
The numeral 1 denotes a portion of a window frame carrying an outer guide strip 2, an inner guide strip 3 and a parting strip 4. The numeral 5 denotes the stile of an upper sash and the numeral 6 denotes the and 9 may be bent toform finger pieces 15.
As indicated by the numeral 16, the body- 7 is curved longitudinally, or convexed, to a slight extent.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 30, 1920.
, 1920. Serial No. 391,939.
Securing devices 17, such as screws, are inserted into the stile 5 of the upper sash and into the stile 6 of the lower sash. The body 7 of the fastener rests on the upper end of the stile 6 of the lower sash, the flange 8 cooperates with the vertical surface of the stile 5 of the upper sash, and the flange 9 cooperates with the vertical surface of the stile 6 of the lower sash, the securing devices 17 being received in the slots 10. It will be seen from the foregoing, that the sashes are connected in such a way that one sash cannot be opened independently of the other, the sashes-being held together, transversely, so as to effect a dust proof joint between their cross rails. The body 7 is curved as shown at 16, and, then the fastener is slid te the right '(Fig. 1) until the securing devices 17 are received in the slots 10, the body 7 is flattened to a slight extent. The fastener, therefore, is engaged with the securing devices 17 and bears on the upper end of the stile 6 with a spring pressure. By means of the linger piece 15, the fastener may he slid to the right (Fig. 1) until the rib 12 enters between the stile 5 of the upper sash and the parting strip 4, as indicated in Fig. 4, the sashes thus being held against rattling.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is 1. A sash fastener comprising a body having oppositely projectingflanges at its ends, the flanges being provided with transverse slots which are open at one end.
2. Aisash fastener comprising a resilient body which is curved longitudinally, the body being provided at its ends with oppositely projecting flanges, the flanges having transverse slots, the slots being open at one end.
as my own, I have hereto affixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
HEBER ROBARTS.
