GEORGE W. STEIN, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
WINDOW LO CK.
Application filed November 15, 1519.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, Gnoner. W. STEIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicage, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improveinents in lVindow-Locks, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to window locking devices and has for its primary object the construction of a simple device by which windows will be efiectively locked in any of their elevated positions and in such a manner that the device cannot be operated by a person positioned exteriorly of the window.
An object of the invention is the novel manner of constructing the locking member and. keeper and associating the two so that upon slight movement of the member they may be forced into effective locking cooperation.
Besides the above my invention is distinguished in the novel manner of constructing the keeper so that the same may effectively cooperate with the locking member and besides support a ventilator of a construction shown in my former Patent No. 1,194,089.
lVith these and other objects in view the invention will be better understood from the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing wherein- Figure 1 is a perspective view 075 a portion of window sash and trams showing my invention applied thereto.
Fig. 2 is a detailed section view.
Figs. 3 and (i are views of the lower end of the keeper.
Figs. 5 and 6 are detailed, views of modified forms of keeper.
Again referring to the drawing illustrating three of the many forms in whica my invention may be constructed it rill be seen that my invention consists of a locking member l pivoted to the sash by the plate 2 and cooperating with the keeper secured to the window frame.
Referring particularly to Fig. 1 it will be seen that the locking member is constructed of a single length of wire with its ends pivota lly mounted in the plate 2. The body portion l of this member is of L shape formation so as to conform to the surfaces of the sash and frame. By constructing the member as illustrated a slot 5 is formed for Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 31, 1921.
Serial no. 338,242.
"in the drawing but I wish it to be understood that in practice I may use two, one on each side of the sash, which besides locking the window against movement prevents of the winuow and also rattling thereof.
In Figs. 3 and 4t l. have shown lower end portion of the strip 7 formed with a flange 8 which cooperates with an auxiliary strip 9 so as to form a slot 10 for the reception of the ends of a ventilator, of the construction shown in my heretofore mentioned patent.
In Fig. 5 I have shown strip 11 constructed to term cleats 12 for engagement over the locking member and in Fig. 6 I have shown the strip provided with resilient fingers 13 and 14 for resilient engagement with the locking member.
it is of course to be understood that the keeper may be constructed in various other manners than shown and besides associated with the locking member in other relations and, therefore, I do not desire to be limited in any i'nanner except as set forth in the claims herennto appended.
Having thus described my invention what I: claim is:
1. A window locking device comprising a locking member secured to the window sash and movable with relation to the surfaces of the window frame, and a keeper in the :Form of strip or" metal having spaced portions formed into projections for engagement with the member.
2. A window locking device comprising a locking member swingingly connected to a window frame and having spaced limbs, and a keeper formed from a single strip of metal ent to provide U shape yieldable projections adapted to snap between said limbs.
In testimony whereof I aifix my signature.
GEORGE W. STEIN.
