REFRIGERATOR AND THE LIKE Original Filed Sept. 17, 1926 I BY n ATTORNEY.
Patented July 2, 1929.
UNITED STATES ttts PATENT OFFIQE,
HERBERT H. HILLMAN, OF GRAND HAVEN, MICHIGAN, ASSIG'NUR T0 CHALLENGE REFRIGERATOR COMPANY, OF GRAND HAVEN, MICHIGAN, A CQRPORATION OF MICHIGAN.
REFRIGERATOR AND THE LIKE.
August 1'7, 1928.
The present invention relates to hingedlymounted door or closure constructions and more particularly to such constructions as are for use in conjunction with refrigerators and the like.
The main objects of this invention are to provide an improved form of construction of the character above specified; to provide i1nproved means for securing overlaid metallic sheet casing members to wooden bodies or frames of swinging doors or closures; and, to provide wooden body or frame door members concealed and protected by overlaid ornan'iental metallic sheet casings. The invention shown and described herein is divided out of my co-pendjing application Serial No. 220,522 tiled September 17, 1928 for Refrigerators and the like.
An illustrative embodiment of the present invention is shown in the accon'ipanying dra wings in which Figure 1 is a view in perspective of a re frigerator, parts of the metallic sheet casing being' broken away to show the wooden frame or body portion;
Figure 2 is an inner side view of one of the door closures therefor;
Figure 3 is a sectional view of said. closure taken on the line of Figure 2; and
Figure 4 is another sectional view of said closure taken on line l l. of Figure 2.
in the embodiment of the invention illustrated herein, the refrigerator has a wooden body, box or frame, comprising a top 1, back (not shown) sides 3, bottom (concealed from view), and front 5. The front 5 is provided with rectangular openings closable by doors 6. T and 8 hingedly mounted at 9, 1t) and 1.1 respectively.
These doors comprise wooden body or frame members 12 whose outer surfaces are overlaid and concealed, ornamented and protected, by metallic sheet casing meinbres 13.
Divided and this application filed Serial No. 306,188.
These ca sing members are each provided with an inwardlyextending peripheral flange it which surrounds the wooden body of the door. This flange has, at the free or outward corners of the door an overhanging portion 15 underneath. which said corners are received as is shown in figures 2 and These door members are secured in place in any suitable manner as by screws 16 which may be also used to mount the hinges 9 10 and 11 upon the doors. Latches 17 and their keepers 18 provide means for opening and locking the swinging door men'ibers.
It will thus be seen that the improved construction herein described and shown provides novel means for securing metallic sheet casing members to wooden bodies or frames and that such construction inay be well applied to swinging doors for refrigerators and the like.
Although but one specific embodiment of the invention has been herein shown and described it will he understood that numerous details thereof may be altered or omitted without departing from the spirit of the in vention delined in the following clai n.
I claim In a structure of the class described, having a door opening, a hinged closure for said opening having a body and being provided with corners acasing for said body having an. inwardly extending peripheral flange, and a. rebent web integral with and bridging the peripheral flange at the corners thereof atone edge of the closure to form pockets receiving the corners of the body member and a hinge on the opposite edge of the closure for swing-- ingly mounting the same and for securing the casing to the body.
lin testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand at Grand Haven, lilichigan this 11th day of iiii ust 1928.
HERBERT H. HILLMAN.
