Abstract

493,560. Bearings. WILLIAMS, A. April 17, 1937, No. 10987. [Class 12 (i)] A bearing for a revolving spindle 1 comprises a bushing 3 formed with longitudinal slots 4 in which are radially slidable pads 5 pressed against the spindle by means of springs 8. The bushing 3 is supported by a pedestal 2 formed with a pair of holes 6 communicating with each slot 4 and housing dowel pins 7 by which the pads 5 are guided for radial movement but are prevented from rocking or tilting. The spring pressure may be adjusted by means of plugs 9. Oil grooves 12 are formed in the lining diametrically opposite the pads and communicate through a duct 14 with a lubricator 15. The pads may be spaced equidistantly or in the case of a horizontal spindle they may be arranged so that a larger number are below the spindle.
