Abstract
493,476. Cleaning tubes &c. internally. LUHR, F. A. Jan. 2, 1937, No. 21549. Divided out of 493,435. [Class 99 (ii)] Apparatus for cleaning tubes &c. 15, Fig. 2, internally comprises a spider 11 on which is pivotally mounted, by forked holders 13, one or more sets of percussion tools or striking elements 14 and which is rotated by a shaft 5 mounted in a head .3 supported eccentrically within the tube by an annular wire brush 16, or by spirally-arranged projections 4, Fig. 9. Rotation of the shaft 5 and tools 14 causes rotation of the head 3, but, if desired, the head may be rotated positively through the guide tube, not shown, of said shaft. In a modification, Fig. 4, two sets of percussion tools 14, 14<1> are carried by the head 3, the shafts 6, 6<1> of the tools being rotatably mounted in a plate 20 on the end of the driving shaft 5 and provided at the ends remote from the tools with pinions 21, 21<1> for engagement with a pinion 22 on a central projection 23 of said head. The head may also be fitted with a brush &c. 16 as in the previous construction. Fig. 7 shows a further modification in which the tools 14, 14<1> are pivoted on rotatable spiders 6, 6<1> so that they rotate in a plane passing through, or parallel with, the axis of the tube to be'cleaned.
