Abstract
489,993. Making brushes. BELL, M. V. March 8, 1938, No. 7194. [Class 19] Bristles B, Fig. 1, are gripped in position by driving a tapered handle or peg A through the centre until they are firmly held between the larger end of the handle and the inner surface of a ferrule C. A device for supporting the bristles comprises a table D with a central aperture d of greater diameter than the handle A and provided with fixing-lugs d<1>, Fig. 2. A number of plates E together forming a disc are each mounted on a stud F. The inner end of each plate E slides against a side e<1> of an adjacent plate. Each pair of plates is connected by a spring f. An adjusting screw e<2> bears against one corner of one of the plates and sets the initial size of the aperture E<1>. As the handle A is driven inwards, the plates pivot against the tension of the springs, enlarging the aperture E<1>, the bristles B always being supported by the plate E.
