Abstract
490,362. Polishing metal powders. MANDLE, H. H. Feb. 12, 1937, No. 3112. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Nov. 3, 1937.] [Class 100 (ii)] In apparatus for polishing lamellar metal powders, of the type comprising a closed cylindrical drum 1, in which are mounted brushes 2 relatively rotatable with respect to the drum, adjustment of the pressure of the brushes against the curved wall of the drum is effected from outside the drum by control means passing into the drum in a gastight manner. Each brush 2 is carried by a lever 8 pivoted to an arm 7 fixed to a hollow shaft 4 ; either the shaft or the drum may be rotated. Each brush 2 is pressed towards the inside surface of the drum to an extent limited by an adjustable stop 24 by a spring 22 on a rod 9 pivoted eccentrically to a disc 10. The stop 24 may be V-shaped to engage a notch in the lever 8. The discs 10 are fixed to a shaft 12 passing through a sealing-gland 13, and an arm 15 fixed to the shaft 12 is adjustable relatively to a driving-pinion 3 fixed to the shaft 4 to vary the pressure of the brushes. In a modification, the two brushes at one end of the drum are adjustable independently of the other two, separate shafts and adjusting-arms 10 being provided.
