Abstract
353,993. Cigarette-making machines. TRIGGS, W. W., 57, Lincoln's Inn Fields, London.-(American Machine & Foundry Co. ; 511, 5th Avenue, New York, U.S.A.) June 2, 1930, No. 16968. [Class 130.] Sealing mechanism for a continuous - rod machine e comprises means for applying heat to the pasted seam of the cigarette rod and means for afterwards applying pressure and cooling the seam in order to avoid sweating of the rod. As shown, the sealing mechanism is mounted on an arm 5 pivoted at 6 upon a bracket 7. The sealing disc 16 is secured to a heat-insulating disc 15 mounted on a shaft 13, and is frictionally driven from the cigarette rod C or may be turned by a hand-wheel 17. The disc 16 receives heat bv radiation from a disc 10, which is provided with an electric heating unit 11 and is secured to a heatinsulating disc 9 mounted on a bracket 8 on the arm 5. The first cooling bar 21 is mounted on a heat-insulating plate 20 on the arm 5 and is slotted to clear the sealing disc 16. The second cooling bar 22 is spaced from the first and is not insulated from the bracket 5. The pressure of the disc 16 and bars 21, 22 on the cigarette rod is adjusted by means of a screw 23 carried by the arm 5 and bearing on a lug 24 of the bracket 7.
