Abstract

737,051. Grinding-machines. LARSSON, J. O. Aug. 5, 1953 [Aug. 8, 1952], No. 21667/53. Class 59. In a grinding-machine for wood chips or the like comprising a fixed housing 10 and an axially displaceable rotatable member 11 which define between them a pre-grinding zone 33 and a fine grinding zone formed by members 34, 35 extending transversely to the axis of rotation, the straight line passing through the ends of the generatrix for the surface of the member 11 is inclined at an angle of not more than 30 degrees to the axis of rotation. The member 11 is mounted on an axially-slidable rotatable shaft 12 the lower end of which is supported on the shorter arm of a pivotally-mounted lever 23, the longer arm of which is connected to a rod 25 which is subjected to adjustable spring pressure. Alternatively, the lower end of the shaft 12 may be supported by a hydraulic pressing device 30. Material is fed to the pregrinding zone by means of a screw 13 and steam under pressure may be admitted through a tube 15 to the housing 10. The grinding surfaces in the zone 33 may be provided with spiral-shaped ridges or with raised portions and the surfaces of the members 34, 35 may be roughened. The housing 10 is provided with a discharge valve preferably as described and claimed in Specification 734,733, [Group XXIX], which is referred to.
