Abstract
567,384. Grinding. HUGHES, A. O. July 26, 1943, No. 12131. [Class 60] Apparatus for correcting errors in surfaces by grinding out high spots, comprises a sole plate a movable by hand over the surface, and having pivoted thereto at a<1> a head b carrying the spindle of a grinding-wheel c driven by a flexible shaft d or by an electric, compressed air, or other motor. The spindle of the wheel c is so arranged that when the wheel contacts the surface, its grinding face is at an inclination thereto ; the head b has a handle portion e and is adjustable by means of a screw f acting against the pressure of a spring g. In a modification, the head is slidably mounted on a pillar on the sole plate, being pressed upwardly by a spring; in operation, with both forms, the device is moved over the surface to the spot to be ground and the wheel is then lowered on to the surface by pressure of the hand on the grinding-wheel head. The amount of movement of the head on the sole plate may be predetermined by means of co-operating adjustable lugs thereon ; the apparatus may be used on flat and other surfaces.
