Abstract
PURPOSE:To grind end face of a optical fiber with high efficiency and high accuracy by holding two or more optical fibers vertically, pressing them to the rotary grinding machine with a certain specified pressure, and by allowing it to make swing motion fully from one to the other end of the grinding machine. CONSTITUTION:Optical fibers a held by a connector 29 are mounted vertically in a material holder 28. The force of a spring 27, which presses the pressurizing shaft 24 upward against a bushing 25, is adjusted by turning a spring adjustment ring 26 while the pushing force of optical fiber a to the grinding machine 14 is optimized by means of a weight 39 having a certain specified mass. The end face of this optical fiber is ground by operating the grinding machine 14, in which the material holder 28 is swung with the shaft 19 as the center moving fully from one to the other end of the grinding machine 14. Thus optical fibers are held vertically and the grinding direction is changed periodically, that will assure a processing with high efficiency and high accuracy.
