Abstract

493,142. Valve generating circuits. FERRANTI, Ltd., and TAYLOR, M. K. Feb. 24, 1938, No. 5642/37. [Class 40 (v)] A saturating reactor is included in the circuit of an overcoupled oscillator to assist the production of saw tooth current. The reactor 3 may be included in part of the circuit common to both the scanning coils 5, 6 and the anode coil 4 of the transformer such as the anode lead as shown in Fig. 1, or the cathode lead or may be in part of the circuit individual to either the anode coil or to the scanning coils. If in the part of the circuit individual to the scanning coils, as indicated in Fig. 3, the core carries no unidirectional current and does not saturate in the required manner. Consequently the rate of increase of current is greater at the beginning and end of the stroke than at the middle. This defect is remedied by passing direct current through a biassing winding on the core or by including a permanent magnet 13 in the iron circuit of the reactor. With such an arrangement the wave form can be varied at will by altering the magnetic bias. If a tetrode is used as an oscillator the second grid is used as the back coupling anode as indicated in Fig. 5. U.S.A. Specification 2,059,683 is referred to.
