Abstract
354,120. Valve generating circuits. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London.-(Assignees of Dome, R. B. ; 13, 9th Street, Schenectady, New York, U.S.A.) Oct. 21, 1930, No. 31559. Convention date, Oct. 23, 1929. [Class 40 (v).] A valve generator has a magneto-strictive coupling between anode and grid circuits and, in addition, independent means for energizing the grid circuit from the anode circuit. As shown, the oscillations generated by valve 1 are controlled in frequency by a magnetostrictive body 2 of nickel or of an alloy of nickel and iron, copper, cobalt, &c., which is wound with two coils, of which one, 3, is included in the anode circuit comprising the primary of the coupler 5 and a battery 6 shunted by a condenser 7, while the other, 4, is included in the grid circuit comprising the secondary of coupler 5, battery 13 shunted by condenser 8 and blocking condenser 9. The circuit comprising coils 3, 4, 5 is tuned to the oscillation frequency of the body 2 by a variable condenser 10 connected between the coils 3, 4. Grid bias is supplied through a choke 12 from battery 11, and the battery 13 sends an additional magnetizing current through coil 4, the circuit being completed by choke 14 and resistance 15. The feed-back due to the coupler 5 is arranged to be several times as great as that due to the magnetostrictive body.
