Abstract
492,135. Rotating aerial swing. HARLE, G. A. Nov. 25, 1937, No. 32587. Convention date, Nov. 26, 1936. [Class 132 (i)] A rotating aerial swing having a cabin supported by one end of a rotary arm with a counterweight at the other, or a cabin at each end, each cabin being kept vertical during rotation of the arm, has the centre of gravity of each cabin above the point of suspension of the cabin on the arm, being maintained so by kinematic connection. As shown in Fig. 3, the cabins 5 pivoted on the beams 1 are maintained vertical, during rotation, by means of chain gears 7. In a modification, not shown, an arrangement of bevel gears is used instead of chains. In a further modification, Fig. 4, the vertical position of the cabin is maintained by a crank 16 and a rod 17 connected to a fixed crank-shaft 13. The cranks may be duplicated to avoid a dead centre. A braking device 8, Fig. 3, may be provided for holding the swing stationary during entrance to or exit from a cabin.
