[Class 80 (ii)] An automatic change-speed epicyclic gear comprises planet pinions 3 which are carried by a driving plate 1 and which mesh with a sun gear 4 fast on the driven shaft 5 and with a toothed annulus 7 secured to a spider 9, the latter having a hub 8 journalled on the shaft 5 and pivotally carrying spring- retracted friction shoes 11 which are adapted, under the action of centrifugal force, to engage a drum 6 which is of comparatively-large diameter and which is secured to the shaft 5, or, in an alternative arrangement, to the plate 1.
