Abstract
Friction linings for brakes, clutches, &c. are made by moulding a composition comprising glass wool and a binding agent, which may be a heat-hardenable resin such as a cresol formaldehyde resin. Fillers such as asbestos, kieselguhr, wood flour, iron oxide, graphite, zinc oxide, carbon black or pumice may also be incorporated in the mix. The linings may be made by first forming a sheet of the composition and then uniting two or more sheets together. The glass fibres may be in the form of long lengths which may be carded into a mat, or they may be disintegrated. Metal wire or metal inserts or reinforcements may be incorporated in the linings.ALSO:Friction linings for brakes, clutches, &c. are made by moulding a composition comprising glass wool and a binding agent, which may be a heat-hardenable resin such as a cresol formaldehyde resin.
