Abstract
A moulded material for friction linings for brakes, clutches, &c. consists of a fibrous material and a binding agent with or without fillers, and molybdenum disulphide homogeneously dispersed therethrough, in amount, e.g. of 0.1 to 10 per cent by weight of the material. The binder is preferably a mixture of 5 parts (by weight) of natural rubber and 3 parts of a thermosetting phenol-formaldehyde resin. In the example, two cold solutions of natural rubber and asphaltic bitumen (as plasticizer) in trichlorethylene are mixed together; the fillers carbon black, graphite, sulphur and litharge are then stirred in, followed by the molybdenum disulphide and chopped wire yarn (i.e. asbestos and cotton-covered wire) and finally by the phenol-formaldehyde resin. The resulting paste is extruded in the cold, and after alternate drying and compressing operations is moulded into the desired shape and baked.ALSO:A friction lining composition consists of a fibrous material and a binding agent with or without fillers, and molybdenum disulphide homongeneously dispersed therethrough in amount, e.g. of 0.1 to 10 per cent by weight of the composition. The binder is preferably a mixture of 5 parts (by weight) of natural rubber and 3 parts of a thermosetting phenol-formaldehyde resin. In the example two cold solutions of natural rubber and asphaltic bitumen (as plasticizer) in trichlorethylene are mixed together; the fillers carbon black, graphite, sulphur and litharge are then stirred in, followed by the molybdenum disulphide and chopped p wire yarn and finally by the phenolic resin. The resulting paste is extruded in the cold, and after alternate drying and compressing operations is moulded into the desired shape and baked.
