489,830. Fire alarms and extinguishers. GRISON, J. Dec. 3, 1937, No. 33475. [Classes 47 (i).and 47 (ii)] A combined fire extinguishing and alarm device comprises a casing 9 in which a grenade 12 is supported by a bracket and a resilient ring. The front and side walls of the casing are provided with pairs of lugs 17 in which are mounted hammers 20. Each hammer is pressed by a spring 24, is retained with the spring stressed by a fusible link 25, and has, at its end, a container 21 for an explosive cartridge and a firing pin 22. Each link 25 comprises overlapping plates 25a, 25b with registering slots 25c filled with solder, the plates having T-heads 25d for engagement with slots in the hammers and the casing walls. The three links are designed to fuse at successively higher temperatures, so that first the hammer at one side, then that at the other side, and finally that at the front, is released. Thus, three successive alarm explosions are produced, and the front hammer projects through an opening 16 in the casing to break the grenade. The casing has a lid 15 permitting removal of the grenade for hand use.
