Abstract

470,179. Fire - extinguishers. HAIMANN, E., and IMPA EXPORT UND VERSANDGES. Dec. 10, 1935, No. 34173. Convention date, Dec. 11, 1934. [Class 47 (ii)] A fire-extinguishing grenade comprises a frangible casing 1 containing an extinguishing powder 4 and closed by end caps 6, 7, preferably of cardboard, which are tightened on the casing by spring washers 8 on a supporting rod 2. A cardboard, celluloid, or like tube 11 arranged parallel to the rod 2 and fitted on the caps 6, 7 houses fuses for igniting the explosive charge 5, which is enclosed in a cartridge 10 slidable on the rod 2 and tube 11 and embedded m the powder 4. A quick match 13, passing through a hole 15 in the tube 11 to a detonator 14 for the explosive, is connected to an inflammable ribbon 12 normally protected by a removable cover 24. A second quick match 23 is connected to a time fuse 22 connected to a friction igniter 16 adapted to be ignited by a pull on a cord 17. The latter, with its operating ring 18, is housed in a recess 19 in a handle 3, a slide ring 20 with an aperture 21 normally covering the recess. The handle is held against rotation on the rod 2 by a plate 25 provided with a suspension hole 26. The angle of distribution of the powder 4 can be varied byadjusting the cartridge 10 along the rod 2 before the casing 1 is charged, the fuses 13, 23 having slack to permit this. If the cartridge is conical, a conical discharge of the powder may be obtained. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also a construction, Figs. 4 and 5 (Cancelled), wherein an extinguisher comprises a casing 31, of the shape shown, provided with a filling opening closed by a cover 33, and carried by a rod 34. The latter carries a cartridge 35 comprising a friction igniter 38 and an explosive charge 36 between packings 37. The extinguisher is suspended from a hook 46 by an eye member 43, the limbs 44 of which are embedded in fusible solder 45 in a cup 42 carried by the hook. A cord 40 connected to the igniter 38 is coiled several times round a roller 47, and made fast to the hook 46. When the solder 45 melts, the extinguisher falls, and uncoils the cord 40. When the latter is fully extended, it fires the igniter 38, exploding the charge 36. The charge may be exploded electrically, by arranging that the limbs 44 close an electric circuit when the solder melts. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
