Abstract
438,490. Fire-extinguishing. FINZI, G., 45A, Via Agostino Depretis, Rome. April 3, 1935. No. 10340. [Class 47 (ii)] A grenade of the kind comprising a container 5 filled with an extinguishing powder or liquid and a central bursting charge 20 in a spherical or other cartridge 21, is provided with an axial tube 1 acting as a support for the whole assembly. The container 5 is formed of non- splinterable material with fracture lines 28, and is secured to end caps 4, 9 secured to the tube 1 by nuts 3 and a flange 8. The cartridge 21 is fitted tightly on the tube 1, and the latter houses fuses 17, 18 adapted to ignite the charge 20 through vents 19. The fuse 18 is a quickmatch which extends into an inflammable cap 23 secured on the tube 1 and provided with igniting streamers 24. The latter extend through openings 25 in a protective hood 26. The fuse 17 is a slow match extending from the end of the quick match 18 to a detonating cap 13 adapted to be fired by a pull cord 15 extending through the handle 11, the latter being secured to the tube 1 by a coupling member 12. In a modification, the handle 11 is replaced by a suspension loop, and a protective network of wires is secured around, and spaced from, the container 5 to prevent damage to it by impact when thrown upon the fire. A similar network may be fitted to the grenade shown in the Figure.
