Abstract
200,315. Bargar, F. C. May 30, 1922. Direct gas-pressure apparatus, non-automatic. -In chemical fire-extinguishers or other liquiddischarging apparatus of the type in which the liquid is expelled by pressure derived from the ignition of an inflammable or explosive substance such as gunpowder, the latter is contained in slowly-burning fuses 22 wound around a tube 21 in a shell 18, which is removably mounted in a casing 12 depending from a projection 11 on the closing-cap 8 of the main container 3. The fuses 22 are of different lengths, so as to burn for different lengths of time and ensure a steady and continuous gas pressure until the liquid is expelled. The fuses are ignited on inversion of the apparatus by a weight 26 falling on firing- pins 30 engaging percussion caps 32<1> arranged to fire loose powder 33 in a soft metal receptacle 34, the gases of combustion bunsting the receptacle 34 and a soft metal diaphragm 29 and escaping from the casing 12 through an opening 38 normally covered by a spring-pressed valve 36.
