560,227. Explosive materials. GOLDSMITH, P. A. H., and HEATERS, Ltd. June 19, 1942, No. 8458. [Class 9 (ii)] A blasting cartridge containing a blasting medium of non-combustible gas such as CO2 confined under pressure in a sealed container has the heating or combustible gas-producing charge-which may be of the kind;described,in either Specification 413,823 or 480,330-ignited by a granular mixture of an oxidiser such as potassium perchlorate and sodium or potassium salicylate. Such a mixture would initiate combustion in air or in heaters or, charges that sustain their own combustion but to. render the ignition mixture non-burning in air and yet bo capable of igniting a heating or gas-producing mixture under the pressure conditions of the enclosed non-combustible gas, an endothermic salt such as ammonium oxalate may be mixed with the mixture of oxidiser and sodium or potassium salicylate. Examples of ignition mixtures are given in the Specification and also the sizes of grains in relation to the standard sieves of the ammonium oxalate. The ignition mixture may form part of a filament-ignition element or a match-head element closely incorporated in the heat or gas-producing mixture of the blasting cartridge and in the case of the filament elements the wire may be dipped into a molten bath of the ignition mixture some of which thereupon adheres to the filament.
