Abstract

489,106. Bobbins; spinning - cans. BONWITT, G. Jan. 19, 1937, No. 1627. Convention date, Jan. 30, 1936. [Classes 120 (ii) and 120 (iii)] Bobbins or spinning-cans used in the production of artificial silk are made of aluminium coated with a layer of chromium or manganese or alloys of chromium or manganese having a resistance to corrosion, by acid and alkaline solutions such as are used in the viscose process, which is equivalent to or greater than that of chromium. The protecting layer may be deposited on the aluminium electrically or by spraying or the outer layer of the aluminium body can, e.g. be rendered resistant to acid and alkali by alloying with chromium by sintering on the protective metal which is reduced from an oxide powder.
